Craigievar Castle is a bold example of Scottish Baronial architecture, its pink turrets blending in mesmerisingly with the west side of the valley, in Aberdeenshire.
One of the most well-preserved of its type, the castle’s construction began in the sixteenth century, with the building completed some fifty years later.
Serving as a family home until the mid-twentieth century, it was famous internally for being an amalgam of contemporary form with an elegant historical tradition, and notable Jacobean woodwork in the Great Hall.
The castle underwent extensive renovations across recent decades in order to restore it both internally and externally to its former and authentic glory.It has been said that Walt Disney took inspiration from this castle, which is now operated by the National Trust for Scotland.
